Realization of cantilever arrays for parallel proximity imaging
نویسندگان
چکیده
This paper reports on the fabrication and characterisation of self-actuating, and selfsensing cantilever arrays for large-scale parallel surface scanning. Each cantilever is integrated with a sharp silicon tip, a thermal-driven bimorph actuator, and a piezoresistive deflection sensor. Thus, the tip to the sample distance can be controlled individually for each cantilever. A radius of the tips below 10 nm is obtained, which enables nanometre in-plane surface imaging by Angstrom resolution in vertical direction. The fabricated cantilever probe arrays are also applicable for large-area manipulation, sub-10 nm metrology, bottom-up synthesis, high-speed gas analysis, for different bio-applications like recognition of DNA, RNA, or various biomarkers of a single disease, etc.

Piezoresistive and self-actuated 128-cantilever arrays for nanotechnology applications
Amajor limitation for future nanotechnology, particularly for bottom-up manufacturing is the non-availability of 2-dimensional massively parallel probe arrays. Scanning proximity probes are uniquely powerful tools for analysis, manipulation and bottom-up synthesis: they are capable of addressing and engineering surfaces at the atomic level and are the key to unlocking the full potential of Nano...
متن کاملPiezoresistive cantilever array for life sciences applications
Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) techniques are used with oneor two-dimensional arrays of piezoresistive probes for parallel imaging. We present a newly designed AFM platform to drive these passivated piezoresistive cantilever arrays in air and liquid environments. Large area imaging in liquid as well as qualitative and quantitative analysis of biological cells are demonstrated by the means of pie...
متن کاملOn the Optimum Directivity of Uniformly Spaced Broadside Arrays of Parallel Half-Wave Dipoles (RESEARCH NOTES)
The nominal directivity for uniformly spaced broadside parallel half-wave dipoles associated with a uniform excitation is evaluated. The amplitude distribution for an optimized directivity is then obtained for different numbers of elements with the separations between the dipoles as a variable. The optimum and nominal directivities are compared for different spacings of the elements. While thes...
متن کاملBack to the Programme FABRICATION OF CANTILEVER ARRAYS WITH TIPS FOR PARALLEL OPTICAL READOUT
We report on progress in the fabrication of cantilever arrays with tips. The process features only one lithographic step for the definition of both the tips and cantilevers. The tips have a uniform height distribution and are placed by selfalignment on the cantilever. The arrays are fabricated for an optical readout technique under development in which the cantilever arrays serve as diffraction...
متن کاملMultifunctional cantilever-free scanning probe arrays coated with multilayer graphene.
Scanning probe instruments have expanded beyond their traditional role as imaging or "reading" tools and are now routinely used for "writing." Although a variety of scanning probe lithography techniques are available, each one imposes different requirements on the types of probes that must be used. Additionally, throughput is a major concern for serial writing techniques, so for a scanning prob...
